A brewery is set to release a beer for ArtPrize.

Founders Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids said today that it will release Spectra Trifecta in September, with proceeds benefiting ArtPrize.

Spectra Trifecta is a Kolsch-style beer with a trio of natural ingredients: chamomile, lemongrass and fresh ginger.

The beer comes in at 5.9 percent ABV.

Beers made in the Kolsch style are brewed with ale yeast at a colder temperature than normal, giving the beer a clean finish, much like that of a lager-style beer.

The beer is the third-annual beer that Founders Brewing has brewed for ArtPrize the last three years.

“I love coming up with the recipe for the ArtPrize beer every year,” said Jeremy Kosmicki, brewmaster, Founders Brewing Co. “For the past two years, I’ve worked on our pilot system to develop an approachable, lower-alcohol beer with tons of flavor. This year’s beer is brewed using a different fermentation process than what we usually use and is made with some fun, non-traditional ingredients.”

Grand Rapids native and Founders Brewing employee Alexis Brooke penned the nature-inspired label with markers, ink and watercolors.

Distribution

The beer will be sold in 12-oz bottles in Michigan, Wisconsin, greater New York and greater Chicago with a suggested six-pack retail price of $6.99.

Draft will be sent throughout the brewery’s distribution footprint.

The limited-distribution release will begin on Sept. 13. The taproom release will be on Sept. 14.

Spectra Trifecta will also be featured at official ArtPrize events.

ArtPrize partnership

In 2013, Founders Brewing signed a contract to become the official brewery of ArtPrize for at least five years.

The first beer released for the event was 2013’s Inspired Artist Black IPA, followed by 2014’s Mosaic Promise.

More than 400,000 people are expected to visit Grand Rapids for the seventh edition of ArtPrize this year, from Sept. 23 to Oct. 11.

"Founders is now undoubtedly one of the finest craft brewers, not only in Michigan but in the entire United States," said Christian Gaines, executive director, ArtPrize. "We're immeasurably proud to call Founders the official ArtPrize brewery and share in the excitement of their new special release, Spectra Trifecta — a culmination of our partnership, built upon a mutual passion for our community and the creativity that resides within it."
