Coffee company produces lectures
It’s easy to stay awake for lectures fueled by coffee.
Madcap will host its Coffee Lecture Series this Friday in Grand Rapids from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Worklab, at 99 Monroe Ave.
Friday’s event will feature presentations by a variety of coffee and tea experts.
Starting the day will be “The Story of Sprudge” by Jordan Michelman, co-founder of the coffee media site Sprudge. The lecture will describe how the site comes together.
Madcap’s Varietal Series will be discussed by coffee producer and consultant Luis Rodriguez who provides coffee beans for Madcap.
Tea will also be discussed in a lecture by Peter Luong, owner of Song Tea & Ceramics in San Francisco.
Then a panel will discuss the future and importance of barista competitions. The panel will consist of Madcap co-founders Trevor Corlett and Ryan Knapp and Matthew Scott, the owner of Lemonjello's Coffee in Holland.
The event is free, but RSVPs are required as space is limited. People can RSVP online.
The lecture day is part of a two-day event hosted in partnership with Sprudge to celebrate Madcap’s pre-order launch of its Varietal Series box set.
The partners are also throwing a party tonight in Grand Rapids from 8 p.m. to midnight at Madcap’s new roasting facility, at 1041 Fulton St. E.
