A town in Ionia will host a beer festival Saturday.

Beerfest on the Bridge is on tap for 3-8 p.m., Aug. 1, on Veterans Memorial Bridge in downtown Portland.

The event is the first to be held on the bridge, built in 1890, making it the oldest surviving truss bridge in Michigan.

The festival, presented by the Portland Michigan Main Street Program, will host 12 breweries and two cideries offering more than 50 beverage selections. The festival will tap Saugatuck Brewing Co.’s Portland Strong Strawberry Stout for the first time. The brew was made following the tornado that hit the town last month.

The Michigan Main Street Program is a long-term approach to revitalizing Michigan’s downtown business districts.

Food and music also will be featured all day with $40 VIP tickets allowing early entry at 2 p.m. Tickets will be available at the gate for $35.
