A local restaurant is considered one of the best independent restaurants in the Great Lakes region.

Full Service Restaurants magazine, or FSR, ranks the Grove in Grand Rapids as one of the “Top 100 Independents” in the multi-state region.

Grove is one of two restaurants in Michigan in the ranking, with the other one being the Slurping Turtle in Ann Arbor.

The post last month mentions Grove’s selection as Business Insider’s “Best Restaurant in Michigan” in 2015 and how it “highlights new American cuisine with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients.”

The restaurant has annual sales of between $2 and $3 million annually, with an average check of $53, according to the ranking.

The restaurant opened in September 2011 and has won multiple Restaurant of the Year awards from Business Journal sister publication Grand Rapids Magazine.

Restaurant group

Grove is the third restaurant in the Essence Restaurant Group, which also includes The Green Well and Bistro Bella Vita.

A fourth restaurant will join the group at 616 Lofts at Monroe being built in northwest Grand Rapids.
