Change Ups: MFP Automation moves to iconic location

MFP Automation Engineering moved to its new location at 4404 Central Parkway in Hudsonville, after 24 years in Grandville. The vacant iconic cantilevered office and warehouse building was formerly rented by Erector LLC to bankrupt Lamar Construction Co. Betten Real Property LLC purchased the building in February and is owned by Roger L. Betten, president of the operating company that leases the building. The cantilevered building is visible from I-196 in Hudsonville.

ADVERTISING & MARKETING

COM 616 celebrated its one-year anniversary of full-time business, which it attributes to a contemporary business model that leverages strategic partnerships and an efficient use of space while focusing on a high-level of customer service.

Julie Sheeran has joined 834 Design & Marketing as creative director.

ARTS

Mark Warner has joined Grand Rapids Ballet as development director.

ASSOCIATIONS

Associated Builders and Contractors/Western Michigan Chapter announced the promotion of Jen Schottke to director of workforce development and external affairs.

Donald Shampine, president of Michigan Insurance Group, was re-elected to Michigan Association of Independent Agents’ board of directors, which represents 13 Michigan counties including, Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent and Montcalm.

The Hope College Alumni Association board of directors elected new officers: president, Victoria Brunn; vice president, Nancy Otterstrom; and secretary, Bradley Norden. New board members are Josh AugustineJonathan Liepe, Matt Wixson and Hideo Yamazaki.

AWARDS

Eric and Becky Vetter and Craig and Jennifer Vetter, owners of Allegra Marketing, Print and Mail in Grand Rapids, were recognized by Alliance Franchise Brands with the franchise network’s annual Sales Excellence Award.

The American Psychological Association has named Hope Network neuro-rehabilitation psychologist Dane Ver Merris a 2015 recipient of the Karl F. Heiser Award for his state and federal advocacy efforts.

Rev. Peggy Lawrence Burns, vice president of older adult volunteer programs at Gerontology Network, will receive Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2015 Athena Award. She will be honored during the 26th Athena Awards Celebration Sept. 17 at the JW Marriott.

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. announced Dan Rathburn, project manager, was appointed board member at large for the International Facilities Management Association, West Michigan Chapter, and Dave Fleece, project manager, was elected to the Park Township Zoning Board of Appeals.

EDUCATION

Hope College chemistry faculty member Jeff Johnson received the 2015 Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award from the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation.

GOVERNMENT

Kent County Department of Public Works marked 25 years of processing and reselling. To date 300,000 tons of residential recyclables’ plastic, metal, glass and paper have been returned to the economy as automobile parts, office furniture, building materials, household goods, clothing etc.

GRANTS

The National Association of Sports Commissions has named Mary Free Bed Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports the2016 beneficiary of its Legacy Fund, potentially as much as $20,000. The NASC Sports Event Symposiumwill be held for the first time in Grand Rapids April 3-7, 2016.

HEALTH

Allegan General Hospital’s board of trustees elected to its board Jana Tibbitts, CPA/owner of Tibbitts & Associates PLC in downtown Allegan.

Holland Hospital announced the additions of Peter Hoekman, M.D., Lakeshore Health Partners ENT; and Adam Kadlec, M.D., Western Michigan Urological Associates.

Spectrum Health selected Gwen G. Sandefur as its chief operating officer for Spectrum Health Grand Rapids. She will lead day-to-day operations and oversee the development and implementation of long-range plans, goals and objectives for the organization.

Mika Meyers attorney Joshua D. Beard has been elected president of the board of directors for Child Development Services of Ottawa County Inc. Lakeshore Head Start, which promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children by providing educational, health, nutritional, social and other services.

The Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame has inducted Robert O. Smith of Rockford for his dedication to the insurance industry and remarkable service qualities. Smith is an estate and business planning specialist with Northwestern Mutual Financial Group in Grand Rapids.
