A local restaurant is considered one of the 100 best in the nation.

Grove in Grand Rapids ranks among the 2015 “100 Best Restaurants for Foodies in America” by OpenTable.

The ranking released today comes from more than 5 million reviews submitted by OpenTable diners of more than 20,000 restaurants across the country.

The reviews were collected from August 1, 2014 to July 31, 2015.

“We are very pleased by this acknowledgment from OpenTable diners,” said James Berg, managing partner, Essence Restaurant Group. “We are proud to know that these diners thoroughly enjoyed their overall experience at Grove and gave us such high marks.”

Essence Restaurant Group also includes Grand Rapids restaurants Bistro Bella Vita and The Green Well.

The other Michigan restaurant in the ranking is Republic in Detroit.

More than a quarter of the restaurants in the top 100 opened this year.

A majority of the restaurants, including Grove, were founded in the past five years.

"This year's honorees are where the culinary magic happens, where the rules of fine dining are being re-written," said Caroline Potter, chief dining officer, OpenTable. "Whether they're reviving forgotten cooking techniques, championing the latest sustainable ingredient or creating unexpectedly delicious and unique flavor pairings, these restaurants are where you can truly wow the foodies in your life."

Grove has won multiple Restaurant of the Year awards from Business Journal sister publication Grand Rapids Magazine.

Top-ranking states

Several states are home to multiple restaurants in the ranking: New York, 12; California 11; Texas, nine; Minnesota and Oregon, eight; Colorado, Illinois and Pennsylvania, six.
