A Georgia-based chicken fast-food chain is coming to the region.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is building a restaurant on an approximately 0.83-acre site at 4123 W. Main St., in Kalamazoo. The chain is popular for its chicken, wraps, biscuits, sauces and “Louisiana” flavor.

Husband and wife team Percy and Carla Bean, who have been franchisees with Popeye’s for more than 20 years, own the new restaurant through Kalamazoo Brand Management LLC. The Beans currently run Popeyes locations in Lansing, Muskegon and Battle Creek.

The site is currently under construction.

“It’s under construction,” Carla Bean said. “I can’t give you an exact (opening) date. We’re thinking end of September, early October.”
