Change Ups: Landscape company purchases new HQ

DJ’s Landscape Management purchased a building at 4436 Broadmoor SE in Grand Rapids that will serve as its new headquarters and training facility. Prior to moving into the space early this winter, the firm will do several interior and external renovations including new signage, landscaping and parking lot renovations. NAI Wisinski of West Michigan broker Rod Alderink represented the property owner, East Park LLC, in the sale of the property.


Disher in Zeeland has hired Aimee VandenElzen, project manager, and Aaron Denbow, electronics engineer.


Opera Grand Rapids is collaborating with The Harris Building to launch an Emerging Artist program in Grand Rapids’ Heartside District. The Harris Building will offer art and entertainment in its newly renovated space, including a series of popera performances by Opera Grand Rapids.


C.D. Barnes Construction announced the addition of John Piontkowsky, site manager. The company also announced it received the Associated Builders and Contractors Western Michigan Chapter’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process Platinum Award for strengthening its safety performance.

CSM Group in Kalamazoo has hired construction manager John Parker and account coordinator Angie Tuzzio. Tuzzio will work out of Omaha, Nebraska, supporting the Consumer Brand Platform at ConAgra Foods and a ConAgra cost engineer in an accounts payable and receivable function. Parker will work with CSM’s food and beverage team in Dothan, Alabama.

Sable Homes in Rockford announced the promotion of Karin Kay to general manager. Ron Austin assumed the role of sales manager, and Kristin Platto has joined Sable Homes as a digital marketing specialist.


Baker College in Muskegon has earned gold-level status as a veteran-friendly school through a program created by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.

Grand Rapids Community College announced the recipients of its Excellence in Education Awards: Faculty Award, Nikki Banks, criminal justice associate professor; Adjunct Faculty Award, Lyn Jansen, occupational therapy assistant instructor; and  Staff Award, Amy Bennett, exercise science department office manager.

Hope College professor emerita of dance Dorothy Wiley DeLong will receive the National Dance Education Organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award during its 17th annual national conference to be held Oct. 10 in Phoenix.


The Wege Foundation announced the selection of Mark Van Putten to succeed Ellen Satterlee as president/CEO, effective Nov. 2. Satterlee is retiring after more than 25 years of service to Peter M. Wege and The Wege Foundation and will continue to serve as a foundation trustee.


The Grand Rapids Fire Department has been awarded a $1,302,200 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.

HomeCare of Holland Home announced it received 4.5 stars out of 5 on the latest Home Health Compare survey conducted by Medicare. The average rating for home care providers in Michigan is 3.5 stars.

The Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired has formed an alliance with the University of Michigan W.K. Kellogg Eye Center to improve access and rehabilitation services for individuals who are visually impaired. ABVI serves clients in 13 West Michigan counties, with clinics in Grand Rapids, Holland, Muskegon and Ludington.

Dollar Tree has signed a signed a major lease at the Remembrance Landing retail center in Walker. After renovations, the store is expected to open in January 2016. NAI Wisinski of West Michigan represented the landlord in the deal.

The Kent County Information Technology Geographic Information Systems team was honored internationally with a Special Achievement in GIS Award at the 2015 Esri International User Conference in San Diego for its innovative use of GIS technology.
