A 230,000-square-foot warehouse project is underway in the region.

A groundbreaking ceremony was scheduled for this morning in Zeeland for the warehouse by Kenco, a third-party logistics provider, for Mead Johnson Nutrition Company, at 750 Riley St., according to Pioneer Construction yesterday.

Construction is expected to be completed by spring.

The warehouse will be used to distribute the Mead Johnson Nutrition line, including infant formula.

It’s replacing a nearby facility Kenco has outgrown. Kenco will also use the warehouse for fulfillment, reverse logistics, raw materials management, kitting, packaging, labeling and transportation.

Kenco said this summer that the warehouse will have 28 loading docks with 150 truck trailer parking spots.

Kenco worked with CBRE|Grand Rapids to find the space.

Indianapolis-based Scanell Properties is the project developer, and Pioneer Construction in Grand Rapids is the construction manager.

Kenco also has Michigan locations in Dundee and Kalamazoo.

Headquartered in Chattanooga, Tenn., Kenco has more than 90 warehouses across North America.
