An executive with more than 20 years of software experience is the new vice president of product at a venture capital-backed tech startup.

Varsity News Network, or VNN, in Grand Rapids said last week that it has named Lucian Taylor to the role.

VNN makes a website platform and related products for high school athletic departments.

Taylor will be responsible for directing VNN’s product lines and taking the lead on the development of VNN 2.0, its new product initiative.

“Lucian is a recognized expert in product strategy, product lifecycle management and identification of new opportunities at high-growth companies,” said Ryan Vaughn, co-founder and CEO, VNN.

“His varied startup and growth-stage company experience, including an IPO with Rosetta Stone, will be invaluable as VNN continues our rapid growth toward re-defining school sports communication.”

Executive background

Most recently, Taylor served as the chief product officer for FarmLink.

Previously, he has held a number of leadership positions: VP of product management for Rosetta Stone; group manager and product management at Microsoft; VP of products for Ingenix/GeoAccess; VP of product management for Revitas; SVP of product management for PDR Network; VP of product management for SAI global; and principal at Lucian Taylor Consulting.

Taylor holds a B.A. in humanities from Michigan State University and a master’s of architecture from the University of Virginia.
