A restaurant company is planning to open another Coney diner in the market.

Grand Coney plans to open its second restaurant in Grand Rapids, where Sunrise Family Restaurant used to operate, at 401 28th St. SE.

The restaurant should open before the end of the year.

The local chain also operates a location in Allendale.

Grand Coney serves Coney dogs, Coney Island diner classics, such as gyros, Greek salads and soup, and American comfort foods, such as burgers and all-day breakfast.

“The West Michigan market has always supported its local restaurants, and the Grand Coney has become a true favorite,” Grand Coney owner and Restaurant Partners president Jeff Lobdell said.

“The spirit and popularity of our existing locations have prompted us to continue expanding our Grand Coney brand. We are excited to open our third location now and are actively pursuing more sites.”

Grand Coney

The first Grand Coney opened in 2004, a 24-hour restaurant, at 809 Michigan St. NE.

Four years later, a second location was opened in Allendale, at 6101 Lake Michigan Dr.

The restaurants offer both Detroit, chili sauce, and Flint, seasoned meat sauce, style Coney dogs, with mustard and chopped onions, as well as a West Michigan version called the Calder City Dog, topped with chili, Colby cheese, ketchup, mustard, onions and pickles.

Restaurant Partners

Restaurant Partners operates 14 West Michigan restaurants, including the Grand Coney locations.

Other restaurants in the group include Beltline Bar, Sundance Grill & Bar, The Omelette Shoppe and Bagel Beanery.
