Sub franchise stretches into market

A chain of restaurants that serves "East Coast-style" subs is planning to enter the West Michigan market.

New Jersey-based Jersey Mike’s is opening a 1,600-square-foot location at the corner of 28th Street SE and East Beltline Avenue SE, at 3464 28th St. SE, according to Ben Muller Realty Company in Grand Rapids today. The firm represented the landlord in the deal.

Jersey Mike's may be open by the end of the year. An unnamed franchisee will operate the location.

Michigan locations

There are 18 Jersey Mike’s in Michigan, including 17 in southeast Michigan.

This week, Jersey Mike’s announced it opened its first East Lansing location.

Signautre subs

Jersey Mike’s serves submarine sandwiches, such as Jersey Shore’s Favorite, with provolone, ham and cappacuolo, and The Super Sub, with provolone, ham, prosciuttini and cappacuolo.


The franchise opened its 1,000th restaurant this month.

The first Jersey Mike’s, then called Mike’s Subs, opened in Point Pleasant, N.J. in 1956. The company began franchising in 1987.

Two years in a row, Jersey Mike’s has been ranked the No. 1 "fastest-growing chain" in Nation’s Restaurant News' “Top 100.”

“It may have taken us 40 years to get to 1,000 restaurants, but Jersey Mike’s expects to double that in the next four years, reaching 2,000 locations by 2019,” said Peter Cancro, founder, Jersey Mike's. “We are just getting started, and today we celebrate the owners and their crews, and everyone who helped to achieve this milestone.”
