Fifth Third Bank names race director
Fifth Third Bank has appointed a new race director for its River Bank Run.
Fifth Third Bank said yesterday that it has named John Zimmerman to the role.
Zimmerman is SVP of marketing at Fifth Third Bank in West Michigan.
The role was available, because Kristen Aidif announced in June she will not be returning to the position, which she held since 1992.
“I’m excited to step into a role originally held by a former bank marketing director and race co-founder, Marty Allen,” Zimmerman said. “The race has been a wonderful tradition in West Michigan since 1978, and I encourage everyone to set their goals and start their training for what will be a spectacular year.”
The Fifth Third River Bank Run is the largest 25k road race in the country and also has a variety of other races.
The 39th annual River Bank Run will be held on May 14.
Registration for the event begins today, and training schedules for the race will be available on Nov. 18.
Prior to his role with Cincinnati-based Fifth Third Bank, which Zimmerman started in 2012, he was the senior communications director at Michigan State University’s College of Communication Arts and Sciences.
Previously, Zimmerman served as VP at SeyferthPR and VP of marketing and corporate communications at Mercantile Bank.
From 1993 to 2005, Zimmerman was Meijer’s director of customer and community relations.
He sits on the boards of Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Catholic Information Center and Cathedral of Saint Andrew. From 2005 to 2014, he served on the board for Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Michigan State University and a master of communications from Grand Valley State University.
