A downtown restaurant is closing.

The TGI Fridays in Grand Rapids at 50 Monroe Ave. NW will close on Sunday, according to a Facebook post by the restaurant.

The restaurant opened in 1996, as the nearby Van Andel Arena opened.

“We would like to thank everyone for the many years of business and support,” the post says.

A number of restaurants are coming to downtown, adding to the area's growing restaurant options: Meritage Hospitality Group’s Wheelhouse in Arena Place; Iron in the 25 Ottawa Ave. building; an Essence Group Restaurant at 616 Lofts on Monroe; and breweries such as Atwater Brewery, New Holland Brewing Co. and City Built.
