Coffee roaster plans next café
A coffee company is planning to open a second café in town.
Madcap said today that it will open a new café at the company’s Grand Rapids roasting facility, at 1041 Fulton St. E, in the spring.
“We hope to provide the community with a fresh coffee experience by building off of our original location and maintaining our core values of quality coffee, service and creative thinking,” said Trevor Corlett, CEO, Madcap.
The roastery went online earlier this year after the company grew out of its operation in the basement of its downtown location on Monroe Center Street.
The facility was built in the 1930s and is a former auto shop, which Madcap looks to highlight.
The café will offer coffee, sparkling cascara, nitro-cold coffee and made-to-order waffles.
“The goal for the space is to provide for quick grab-and-go options that will be geared towards folks who want to belly up to the bar for a drink to experience coffee in a unique way,” said Ryan Knapp, director of coffee, Madcap.
Madcap opened in 2008 and has become a prominent name in the coffee world, with many industry publications naming it one of the best roasters in the nation.
In 2014, Madcap roasted about 100,000 pounds of coffee, with 75 percent leaving the state and heading to coffee shops in markets such as Los Angeles, New York and Portland, Ore.
In May, Knapp expected Madcap to roast about 150,000 pounds of coffee this year.
