Private equity firm acquires building supplier
A private equity firm has acquired a maker of residential exterior aluminum products.
Grand Rapids-based Blackford Capital said today that its Michigan Prosperity Fund has acquired Quality Aluminum Products in Hastings.
Blackford Capital’s acquisition of Quality Aluminum Products is the seventh transaction by its Michigan Prosperity Fund, which invests in Michigan companies.
Martin Stein, founder and managing director of Blackford Capital, said Quality Aluminum Products is "widely regarded" in the industry to be the maker of some of the “highest-quality exterior aluminum products available today.”
“The company has achieved a leading presence throughout the Midwest, but we see opportunities for additional growth in this region, along with significant prospects in the Southeast and central west United States,” Stein said. “This growth will result in immediate job opportunities for employees at the company.”
Stein said the larger market opportunities identified have the potential to significantly increase Quality’s geographic capabilities and presence.
Quality Aluminum Products was founded in 1990 by George and Bob Clark, and the brothers have transitioned their responsibilities to their sons, Mike, Bob and Eric Clark, during the last five years.
Mike Clark will continue serving as president, while Bob and Eric Clark will remain in their current roles on the management team.
“We’re very pleased to be partnering with the Blackford team and are excited by the plans for growth that we jointly intend to accomplish,” Mike Clark said. “Working with Blackford, we plan to continue our positive momentum, as they provide our team with the right resources and talent to expand our reach and take our business to the next level of performance and growth.”
He added that Quality Aluminum Products has "tremendous range," and the expansion plans will contribute to its "depth."
Quality Aluminum Products
Quality Aluminum Products provides products such as aluminum rain-carrying systems, roof edging, fascia, soffit, trim coil and siding to the building industry.
The company employs roughly 80 people and has a second facility located in Flat Rock.
Most of the company’s production occurs in an 87,000-square-foot facility in Hastings, and a 35,000-square-foot facility in Flat Rock provides manufacturing for high-volume products and a presence on the east side of the state.
“Quality is unique because it has the production capabilities of a much larger company, while still maintaining industry-leading delivery services and customer care,” Stein said.
