Singing and dancing nuns will take center stage this weekend when the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre debuts its production of “Sister Act.”

“Sister Act” will run from Feb. 26 through March 20.

The award-winning musical, which recently finished a successful Broadway tour, features original music by Tony- and Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who also worked on “Newsies,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Little Shop of Horrors.”

The comedic musical follows “Deloris VanCartier,” “a wanna-be diva” who witnesses a crime, and whose only chance of surviving is to go deep into hiding.

She is placed in “one of the most unlikely places,” The Holy Order of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith, a convent full of “tone-deaf singing nuns.”

The musical is based on the 1992 movie, which starred Whoopie Goldberg as “VanCartier” and Maggie Smith as “Mother Superior.”

Ticket prices range from $18 to $35.
