The former president of a motorcycle club who was accused of stealing money from a fundraiser for a fallen police officer is awaiting sentencing in the case.

Joseph Weeks Sr. of Comstock Township last week pleaded no contest to charges, including embezzlement from a nonprofit of $200 or more but less than $1,000, WOOD TV reports.

A no-contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing.

Weeks is the former president of the Sons of Malta motorcycle club.

Kalamazoo officer Eric Zapata was fatally shot in 2011 while responding to gunshots in a Kalamazoo neighborhood.

The EZ Memorial Ride was held in Zapata's honor.
