An established riverfront restaurant in the area is moving.

RedWater Restaurant Group said today that Reds on the River will move from its location in the Promenade Building in Rockford to the former Acorn Grille space at Thousand Oaks Golf Club in Grand Rapids when Reds’ lease expires on June 30.

The group said Reds was unable to come to an agreement on a renewal at its location of 10 years.

New construction will be completed by the end of March, and the resulting restaurant will be re-branded Reds at Thousand Oaks, at 4100 Thousand Oaks Dr. NE.

“Although we love being located in downtown Rockford, we were met with a difficult decision, either grow and evolve in a new space or be limited by the current lease, parking area and the constraints of the building,” said Craig Smith, COO, RedWater Restaurant Group. “All are welcome in the newly renovated space — golfers and foodies alike will enjoy the view and recently updated casual environment.”

Reds will offer 20 percent off all food from March 7 until the move date.

The new construction will double the kitchen space, which also will allow Reds to expand its menu.

A new bar, interior seating and patio will also be included in the construction.

Overlooking the golf course, the new patio will include two tiers and fire pits, along with a covered deck.

RedWater said the best of Reds’ menu will be carried over, along with new offerings, including pizza.

The wine menu will include more than 160 bottle options and 40 glass pours, and there will be 16 tap beer options and a full liquor menu.

Watermark Properties

Thousand Oaks Golf Club became part of RedWater’s parent company, Watermark Properties, last August.

At the time of the announcement, the club’s Acorn Grille and event center were absorbed into RedWater Restaurant Group.

Watermark also operates Watermark Country Club, StoneWater Country Club and Sunnybrook Country Club.
