Registration is open to be a volunteer at a major golf tournament in the area.

The Meijer LPGA Classic said this week that it has opened registration for volunteers for this year’s event at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, just north of Grand Rapids, from June 14-19.

The tournament will need more than 700 volunteers to help the event run smoothly.

Duties for volunteers will run from marshals to transportation and assisting the media, and they can list their top three positions.

"This community has embraced our event, and we look forward to continued growth and development each and every year," said Doug Meijer, co-chairman, Meijer. "We could not continue to bring such a world-class event to the community without tremendous support from our volunteers and tournament staff."

There is a $55 volunteer fee, which includes two tournament golf shirts, a hat, volunteer badge, four weekly grounds passes for friends and family, a ticket to the volunteer appreciation party and meals and beverages during volunteer shifts.

The Meijer LPGA Classic is a full-field tournament on the LPGA Tour, with the 2016 tournament purse increased to $2 million.

In the tournament’s first two years, it raised more than $1.3 million for Simply Give, Meijer’s hunger-relief program that re-stocks food pantry shelves in the Midwest.
