Sandwich chain opens next location
A chain of sandwich shops is opening its next location in the market tonight at a major retail corridor in town.
Potbelly Sandwich Shop opens for full hours tomorrow at 2006 E. Beltline Ave. NE in the Village at Knapp’s Crossing in Grand Rapids, but an Oven Warming event will take place today from 5-7 p.m.
One-hundred percent of proceeds from tonight’s grand opening of the new location will head to Kids’ Food Basket.
Potbelly locations feature toasted sandwiches, salads, cookies and hand-dipped milkshakes, as well as live local music.
The new location will employ about 20 people.
“We couldn’t be more excited to invite our neighbors into the shop,” said Kaitlyn Hanrahan, manager of the Potbelly location. “We’re the neighborhood sandwich shop that truly has a little something for everyone.”
The company has more than 300 shops in the U.S., with franchisees operating another 20 in the U.S., Middle East and the U.K.
The first Potbelly opened in 1977 in Chicago.
Following Bryant Keil’s purchase of the first location in 1996, the company has expanded.
