Change Ups: Van’s Delivery earns safety award

Van’s Delivery Service earned the Linda E. Anderson Award from Employers for Better Health & Safety, a nonprofit initiative supported by Certified Risk Architects at Ottawa Kent Insurance in Jenison. The award is given to area employers that provide employees CPR and first-aid training, as well as install heart defibrillators at their businesses. Van’s employees recently underwent hours of training in basic first aid, CPR and use of AEDs.

Lance Werner, director of Kent District Library, has been named a Mover and Shaker in the library industry by national publication Library Journal.

AWARDS

Grand Rapids Public Museum announced the honorees for the 8th Annual Jay and Betty Van Andel Legacy Awards, which recognizes individuals for positive impact in the community: Jay and Betty Van Andel Lifetime Achievement Award: John C. Kennedy; Dave and Carol Van Andel Leadership Award: Lyman Parks Jr.; and “The Casey” Award: Dave Engbers and Mike Stevens. The awards will be presented at a gala Nov. 10.

Home Renewal Systems LLC received the 2016 Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation for rehabilitating Fremont High School in Fremont into a 38-unit senior housing building.

Lake Michigan Credit Union has hired Donna Shene as senior mortgage loan officer servicing the Macomb County area.

Mercantile Bank of Michigan announced the additions to its mortgage team with the appointment of Mike Yates, senior vice president, mortgage sales manager, and Sarah Smith,assistant vice president, mortgage operations manager.

For the second year in a row, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry has named Thompson Remodeling the 2016 East Central Regional CotY winner in the Residential Bath $50,001-$75,000 category.

DESIGN

Disher announced the additions of Vicki Zylstra, project manager; Jim Hargrove, product development engineer; and Robert Oswald, program manager.

DMC Design announced the construction of a building that will house its new offices at 523 Ada Drive in the Ada Village re-development.The building is a partnership between Dixon Architecture and DMC Design and will feature two office suites on the second level housing each business. The main level will include two to three retail units.

David Muilenberg of Discovery Financial LLC has qualified for the Top of the Table of the Million Dollar Round Table – The Premier Association of Financial Professionals. Muilenberg is a 33-year MDRT member and 11-time Top of the Table qualifier.

Spectrum Health’s Butterworth and Blodgett Hospitals and Zeeland Community Hospital have been named among the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics.

City Flats Hotel in Holland has received an award from Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof for diversifying its workforce by employing adults who have mental illness with the support of Clubhouse employment and recovery centers.Clubhouses are community centers for those recovering from mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and major depression.

Smith Haughey announced the addition of its fifth office, at 170 College Ave., Suite 320, Holland. Attorneys John R. Marquis and Jaron J. Nyhof will join the firm as the backbone of the new office.

Appropos announced the expansion of its staff to include three new project managers, as well as its new offices at 678 Front Ave. NW, Suite 100, which will bring all its services under one roof. Completion is expected for fall 2016. The expansion results from growing demand for Volta, its product documentation service.
