A Jamaican restaurant in town is relocating to the downtown area.

Jamaican Dave’s, currently in Grand Rapids at 1059 Wealthy St. SE, has signed a lease to move into a 1,980-square-foot building at 530 Division Ave. S., according to NAI Wisinski of West Michigan yesterday.

“I’m excited about moving to the new location, because of an increase of exposure and traffic, which is what the current location was lacking,” said Dudley Swaby, owner, Jamaican Dave’s.

The 15-year-old restaurant specializes in Jamaican foods, such as jerk chicken and curry goat.

Jamaican Dave’s is slated to open at the new location in late April, following a minor renovation project at the space, which was formerly a restaurant.

Bill Tyson of NAI Wisinski represented the building’s owner and brokered the deal.
