A chain of restaurants that serves “East Coast-style subs” is opening its second location in the West Michigan market.

Jersey Mike’s is scheduled to open the location in Walker, at 3454 Alpine Ave. NW, on Thursday.

The chain’s first location in the market — in Kentwood, at 3464 28th St. SE — opened last December.

Michigan presence

There are 20 Jersey Mike’s in Michigan, with most in southeast Michigan.

Signature subs

Jersey Mike’s menu features submarine sandwiches, such as Jersey Shore’s Favorite, with provolone, ham and cappacuolo, and The Super Sub, with provolone, ham, prosciuttini and cappacuolo.

The franchise opened its 1,000 store last October and has twice been named the No. 1 “fastest-growing chain” in Nation’s Restaurant News’ “Top 100.”

Jersey Mike's was founded as Mike’s Subs in Point Pleasant, N.J. in 1956, and it began franchising in 1987.

There are 1,500 locations open or in development.

“It may have taken us 40 years to get to 1,000 restaurants, but Jersey Mike’s expects to double that in the next four years, reaching 2,000 locations by 2019,” said Peter Cancro, founder, Jersey Mike's. “We are just getting started.”
