City plans memorial for fallen officer
A permanent memorial is planned in the region to honor a police officer who was shot to death more than two decades ago.
The Grand Haven Tribune reports the granite memorial to officer Scott Flahive will be placed outside Grand Haven’s public safety complex later this year.
Flahive was 28 when he was shot Dec. 13, 1994, after stopping a car an escaped prisoner was driving, because the vehicle's headlights were not on.
Funding for the project was recently lined up. Grand Haven Public Safety Director Jeff Hawke said more than $20,000 was raised for the project.
There has been discussion about the memorial for several years. A dedication date hasn't been set.
