An Amish-inspired pretzel chain has opened its first location in town.

Ben’s Soft Pretzels is hosting the official grand opening today for its location in Grand Rapids at the Meijer in Knapp’s Corner, at 1997 E. Beltline Ave. NE.

The chain's first Grand Rapids-area location was in Walker, and the chain serves several other locations in West Michigan: Grand Haven, Kalamazoo, Sturgis and Coldwater.

The Knapp’s Corner location is owned by Dan Ross and Kim Wojahn, who also own the Walker and Grand Haven locations.

There are more than 60 Ben’s Soft Pretzel locations in the U.S., with many of them in Indiana — where the company is based in Elkhart.

Ben’s Soft Pretzels was founded in 2008 by Scott Jones, Brian Krider and Ben Miller, a third-generation Amish baker.

Ben’s Soft Pretzels serves “jumbo” soft pretzels that are topped with parmesan cheese, cinnamon and sugar, sour cream and onion, garlic or salt.

The pretzels can be accompanied by one of 10 dipping sauces: vanilla icing, caramel, hot fudge, cheddar cheese, marinara, Amish sweet mustard, nacho cheese, yellow mustard, cream cheese and spicy mustard.

The menu also features other pretzel-based items: sticks, bites, hot dogs and Italian pockets.
