A locally based retailer is adding a twist to today's national Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

Grand Rapids-based Family Christian said this week that it’s launching its Take Your Child to Serve Day today at Camp Roger in Rockford.

The initiative gives Family Christian employees a chance to teach their children about “what it means to serve and be a witness to others” by helping prepare Camp Roger for the summer season.

Children will clean up the grounds at the camp and help to prep and clean the cabins alongside their parents.

“We hope doing good alongside of a parent is a catalyst in our children’s lives to learn the value of serving others,” Family Christian spokesperson Steve Biondo said.

“Our DNA is to serve. We exist to serve, and it is our calling.”

Camp Roger provides educational experiences for children of all ages around the messages of Jesus Christ.

The camp serves youth groups, homeschool groups, college dorm retreats, sports teams, scout groups, corporate groups, reunions, churches and school field trips.
