A local residential real estate firm is building a new $1.5-million headquarters.

Keller Williams Grand Rapids North will build the 8,000 square-foot building in Grand Rapids, at 3237 Platinum NE, according to contractor a.j. Veneklasen last month.

The building will be able to accommodate an additional 4,000 square feet.

The project will break ground tomorrow and is slated for completion in October, so the firm can move from its Grand Rapids location, at 4949 Plainfield Ave. NE, according to Marilyn Hazard, partner and associate broker, Keller Williams Grand Rapids North.

Hazard said the firm has grown from 37 to 140 agents in the past two-and-a-half years, requiring the new space for educational training programs.

The building will be used to house business offices, a training facility and real estate sales efforts.

Paradigm Design in Grand Rapids is the project's designer, and Grand Rapids-based a.j. Veneklasen is the project's contractor.
