A local packaging supplier is planning to undergo a $17-million expansion and increase its workforce.

Eagle Film Extruders of Grand Rapids, which was acquired by Pregis of Chicago last summer, is expanding to meet increased demand related to the acquisition.

The company supplies packaging and sealant films used throughout the packaging industry.

Eagle said it is now being asked to supply “substantially” more film to Pregis, requiring the expansion to its Grand Rapids facility.

It will also hire 50 workers to meet the increased production demand.

Incentives

Eagle Film Extruders has received a $300,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant for the project.

The funds will be used to help offset training costs the company is facing due to its fast hiring ramp-up.

The city of Grand Rapids will also consider supporting the project in the form of a property tax abatement.

Pregis

Pregis is a provider of protective packaging materials and systems.

The company operates 14 North American locations.
