Pizzeria chain opens first location in market

A fast-casual pizzeria chain is opening its first location in West Michigan along a major retail corridor.

Pieology Pizzeria will open Monday in Grand Rapids in the Knapp’s Crossing retail development, at 2006 E. Beltline Ave. NE. The chain’s other Michigan location is in Ann Arbor.

The pizzeria uses signature sauces and crusts to offer “handcrafted, artisan-style custom pizzas.”

The pizzas are cooked in a stone oven in less than three minutes.

Pieology offers an “unlimited” custom menu and a pre-set menu of pizzas: Mad to Meat You, Hickory BBQ Chicken, Alfredo’s Alfredo, Rustic Veggie and Smokin’ Buffalo Chicken.

The restaurant also recently began offering a selection of custom salads.

Carl Chang founded Pieology in 2011 and has expanded the company to its 99th franchise with the Grand Rapids location.

The corporate headquarters is in Rancho Santa Margarita, California.

Pieology Pizzeria will likely reach more than 200 locations by the end of this year, according to an article by the Los Angeles Times.

In January, Panda Restaurant Group, the parent company of Panda Express, bought a minority stake in Pieology to help provide the pizzeria access to its restaurant resources.
