A new hotel in town has named its general manager.

Rachel Crowther has been named by Suburban Inns of Holland as GM of the Hilton Garden Inn, which is being built in Grand Rapids near Woodland Mall, at 2321 East Beltline Ave. SE.

Crowther will begin her new position on June 20.

The Hilton Garden Inn will have 144 rooms, a pool, restaurant and banquet facility.

About 120 people will be employed at the facility when it opens later this year.

Crowther’s responsibilities will include managing all aspects of the property, including its activities and the relationships between the hotel and guests, employees, community, government and industry.

Crowther has previously managed hotel and resort properties in Colorado and Grand Rapids.

Since 2011, she has been complex GM of SpringHill Suites and Hampton Inn North in Grand Rapids.

Experience Grand Rapids, the West Michigan Sports Commission and Kent County Hospitality Association recently recognized Crowther with the Joe Tomaselli Hotelier of the Year award.

The award is given annually and honors distinguished service in the West Michigan hospitality industry. The recipient “displays passion for hospitality, exceptional customer service, exemplary citizenship and community involvement.”

“Rachel is a great fit with Suburban Inns, because of how she exemplifies service above self, which is what our culture is all about,” said Jessica Babcock, director of HR, Suburban Inns.

Crowther holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University in commercial recreation and facilities management.
