A local brewery has released a beer to help support Grand Rapids veterans.

Perrin Brewing Co. said today it made its annual Veteran Pale Lager to honor and support the West Michigan Freedom Cruise and Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.

The light American lager is available on draft and in specialty to-go “crowlers” at Perrin Brewing in Comstock Park, at 5910 Comstock Park Dr. NW.

For every pint sold of the beer, $1 will be donated to "veterans in need and the quality-of-life projects" at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.

Freedom Cruise

Perrin has sponsored the West Michigan Freedom Cruise the past three years, brewing the Veteran Pale Lager to raise funds for the Finish the Mission Veterans Relief Fund.

The cruise is made up of car, motorcycle, music and golf events throughout the week, this year falling on June 14-18.

Perrin Brewing Co. was launched in 2012 and was acquired by Oskar Blues Holding Co. in 2015.

Last year, Perrin brewed more than 14,000 barrels — a barrel is about 31 gallons — a 40-percent increase from 2014.

This year, the brewery expects to brew 27,500 barrels as it continues to grow its packaged offerings and expand distribution into other states.
