Auto supplier wins Excellence Award from GM
An auto supplier in the area has been honored by General Motors for supplying the “highest levels of quality performance” during 2015.
Grand Rapids Controls of Rockford said last month that it has received General Motor's Supplier Quality Excellence Award for an "innovative pull-pull assembly" it developed and produces.
James Bradbury, president of Grand Rapids Controls, said everyone at the company is “thrilled” to receive the award from GM.
Grand Rapids Controls provides automakers, including GM — and clients in various industries — with control cable systems and actuators.
Those control cables and actuators create movement within a vehicle.
Potential automotive applications include power sliding doors, seat adjustment, remote trunk opening and adjustable pedals.
A number of Grand Rapids Controls components can be found in GM automobiles: remote recline releases; various cables; fold-flat release handles; one-touch fold assemblies; load-floor releases; remote recline actuators; and several other integrated systems.
Grand Rapids Controls components can be found in many vehicles in the U.S.: the 2015 Buick Envision; 2017 Cadillac XT5; Chevrolet Sonic; Nissan Pathfinder; Chevrolet Malibu; Chevrolet Suburban; Subaru Legacy; Subaru Outback; Ford Escape; Ford Edge; 2017 Chrysler Pacific; and others.
Grand Rapids Controls is one of 1,506 supplier locations honored worldwide by GM.
GM's top-performing parts suppliers are eligible to receive the Supplier Quality Excellence Award.
To receive the award, Grand Rapids Controls met or exceeded a set of quality performance criteria and earned cross-functional support from the entire GM organization.
“These suppliers have demonstrated their commitment to quality excellence, and their outstanding performance is essential to GM’s efforts to provide its customers with the best products and services in the industry,” said Sheri Hickok, executive director of supplier quality, GM.
This is the fourth year GM's Global Supplier Quality & Development department has presented the Supplier Quality Excellence Award, which “a fraction” of GM suppliers have earned.
In 2014, Grand Rapids Controls’ Qingdao, China location was one of 135 suppliers in China to receive the award for providing high-quality mechanical cable systems and actuators on time to GM plants around the world.
