A local nonprofit looked internally to find its new vice president of resource development.

Grand Rapids-based Heart of West Michigan United Way said last month that it has promoted Mike Kerkorian, its former director of workplace fundraising campaigns, to the VP role.

Kerkorian will lead a team that works with more than 400 Kent County businesses to execute fundraising campaigns.

He will also oversee new business development and gift strategies, including United Way’s Tocqueville Society and Leadership Circle.

“Through my leadership, our workplace team has formed very close relationships with key businesses, enhanced our leadership giving societies and generally now have a great time working together,” Kerkorian said.

Kerkorian’s background

Most recently, as a director, Kerkorian managed Heart of West Michigan United Way's corporate relations and giving for some of the region's largest employers.

He was also donor relations manager for the United Way from 2011 until he became a director in 2014.

Previously, Kerkorian spent six years working for Wellington Management and Investors Bank & Trust in Boston.

He is a previous board member for the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Grand Rapids and was named the Young Nonprofit Professional of the Year by the organization last year.

He is also a member of the Leadership Grand Rapids Class of 2016 and an ambassador for the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.

Kerkorian is a graduate of Middlebury College and holds an M.B.A. from Boston University.
