A tape maker is expanding a plant in the area and creating jobs in the process.

Tesa Tape said today that it is investing more than $20 million into the expansion project at its facility in Sparta, at 324 S. Union St., and adding about 24,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

Construction on the project will begin next Tuesday and is expected to be completed by late next summer.

The plant expansion will create at least 15 jobs in light manufacturing, process engineering and research and development, bringing the Sparta plant to nearly 100 employees.

The additional manufacturing space will house “environmentally friendly” coating, adhesive mixing and converting technology that use water based, solvent-free adhesives. The new operations will replace existing capabilities already in place.

Tesa Tape’s Sparta plant makes products for the automotive, appliance, food packaging and oil exploration markets.
