Forbes says the “best-performing” public company in Michigan is based in Grand Rapids.

The business publication published a photo gallery last month of “The Best-Performing Company in Every State, Ranked by Return.”

Michigan’s “best-performing company” is Universal Forest Products, which had a year-over-year “total return” of 65.6 percent.

Forbes compiled its photo gallery with data from the financial research and analytics firm FactSet.

The total returns of every public company were tracked from June 8, 2015 through June 8, 2016, excluding companies that have been trading for less time.

Forbes says companies involved in natural resources, food and medical technology are well-represented in the photo gallery.

The median return in the dataset is 71 percent, and the average return is 180 percent.

“We’re grateful for the recognition of the hard work of our people, who create success at the Universal family of companies,” said Matthew Missad, CEO, Universal Forest Products
