A local credit union with more than 30,000 members is operating a new location in the heart of downtown.

Adventure Credit Union, formerly Option 1 Credit Union, has opened its 10th location on the ground floor of Arena Place in Grand Rapids, at 45 Ottawa Ave. SW.

The new branch occupies about 2,000 square feet of the ground floor of the 11 story, mixed-use development.

“The Arena District is a focal point of the growth of downtown Grand Rapids, and we are excited to be one of the original tenants of Arena Place,” said Steve Bush, president and CEO, Adventure Credit Union.

New branch

In addition to four on-site employees and a 24-hour ATM, the location features an interactive teller machine that allows members to speak with experts at the credit union’s headquarters via a video display.

The branch's interior has an urban design and supports the concepts of the Grand Rapids Arena South Visioning Plan.

The branch also has digital signage facing the street and on the interior, and it plans to coordinate with event organizers to feature downtown events, including ones at Van Andel Arena, on the display.

The branch and its employees will be managed by Heidi Walker.

Adventure Credit Union

Formerly Option1 Credit Union, Adventure Credit Union recently underwent a brand overhaul that went into effect on June 1.

The new name and updated branding were instituted in preparation for the Arena Place opening.

Adventure Credit Union is celebrating 80 years of operation this year and is a member of the CO-OP Shared Branching network, allowing members from affiliated credit unions to transact business at its branches.

Arena Place

A $55-million development by Grand Rapids-based Orion Construction, Arena Place features office space, 100 apartments, parking and restaurant and retail space.

Orion Construction spokesperson John Wheeler said the firm hopes Adventure Credit Union finds a “permanent home” at Arena Place.
