A website that reviews neighborhoods recently ranked the "best" suburbs in the Grand Rapids metro — including one that rates as the best in the state.

East Grand Rapids ranks No. 1 in the 2016 ranking of the “Best Suburbs to Live in Michigan” that was released last month by the website Niche, which provides “in-depth reviews and analysis” of neighborhoods, K-12 schools and colleges.

Forest Hills ranks No. 7 in the statewide ranking, and Ada Township ranks No. 8.

Nationally, East Grand Rapids ranks No. 62 in the site's ranking of the “Best Suburbs to Live in America.”

The rankings are based on data on cost of living, public school quality, real estate market strength, commute, crime rates, amenities and the percentage of the population with at least a bachelor’s degree.

“Amenities like Reeds Lake and Gaslight Village, coupled with a strong school system, robust real estate market and low crime rate keep our residents here and attract new ones,” East Grand Rapids Mayor Amna Seibold said. “This ranking just confirms the effort our entire community puts into making East Grand Rapids a better place to live.”
