A local producer will premiere a TV pilot in town tomorrow night that features one of Grand Rapids’ most-prized products.

Founders Brewing Co.’s KBS is featured in the pilot episode of “Modern Ahabs,” a beer-focused TV show concept by local beer enthusiast Jason Ley.

The pilot debuts with a free showing at 7 p.m. at Wealthy Theatre in Grand Rapids.

Ley has worked on the show’s concept for more than two years and found a Grand Rapids production company, Deep End Films, to help produce the pilot.

The show is meant to take viewers into the “hunt for the world’s most-elusive craft beer” in a non-staged, realty-style series.

The show’s “white whales” are beers that are especially sought after by beer enthusiasts, often hard to obtain and highly regarded. In West Michigan, that example was set by Founders’ KBS, the show’s first focus.

Ley hopes "Modern Ahabs" can catch on and partner with a major TV or streaming network for multi-episode seasons.
