Grove names head chef

A repeat winner of Grand Rapids Magazine’s Restaurant of the Year title has a new head chef.

Essence Restaurant Group’s Grove said that Jeremy Paquin is its new head chef in an email announcement this week.

Paquin was formerly with Bistro Bella Vita, which is also part of Essence Restaurant Group. He began working at Bistro Bella Vita in 2015.

Former Grove chef Bob Waterbury left to explore his own endeavors.

As head chef at Grove, which is in Grand Rapids' East Hills neighborhood, Paquin will help create the menu for the award-winning restaurant with Grove’s new chef de cuisine, Mike Borraccio, and Essence Chief Culinary Officer Patrick Wise.

Paquin previously operated Mia & Grace and whistle punk in Muskegon with his wife, Jamie.

Michigan-born Paquin graduated from San Jacinto College outside of Houston with a degree in culinary arts and restaurant management, before moving back to Michigan.

“Cooking is where my passion has always been,” Paquin said. “It’s what I do. It’s what I’ve always done.”
