Food distributor names board member

A man who’s a leader in higher education is joining the board of a local food distributor.

Wyoming-based Gordon Food Service said last month that it has appointed Brent Chrite to its board.

He will join the board on Oct. 1.

“I’m delighted to be appointed to the board of directors at a company with such a demonstrable commitment to its employees, its customers and stewardship of its environment and that recognizes the powerful, enduring role of business in our society,” Chrite said.

“Gordon Food Service and its leadership team affirm a set of principles and values to which I am deeply committed. I look forward to joining such an extraordinary community.”

Gordon Food Service Chairman Dan Gordon said that Chrite joins the board “with a breadth of business and academic experience.”

“We look forward to the contributions he will make in helping our family guide Gordon Food Service into the future,” Gordon said.

Chrite's background

Chrite, a Detroit native, is dean of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver.

In the past, Chrite served as dean of the Montclair State University School of Business in New Jersey.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University, master of science from the University of Missouri, Columbia and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

Gordon Food Service

The company was founded in 1897 and has grown into one of the largest private food distributors in North America.

It has operations in the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and Canada, as well as 170 Gordon Food Service store locations in the U.S., which are open to the public.
