A drug maker in the region is planning to acquire a U.S. distributor of health care and consumer goods products.

Perrigo, a Dublin-based company, which operates its North American base in Allegan, said yesterday that it has agreed to purchase Peachtree City, Georgia-based Geiss, Destin & Dunn, or GDD, a "small" over-the-counter distributor serving non-chain retail and institutional markets.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of the month.

John Hendrickson, Perrigo CEO, said although the deal is a “relatively small” transaction value, the acquisition “further strengthens and diversifies our U.S. distribution and retail network.”

He said the deal will provide Perrigo with direct access to the non-mass retail market.

“While we currently distribute product to this channel through GDD, I am pleased we will now bring the management of this business completely in house,” Hendrickson said.

“We look forward to welcoming the GDD team to Perrigo,” he added.
