A local culinary school is ranked as one of the top programs in the nation.

Best Choice Schools, a website ranking higher education institutions in various categories, ranks the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education at Grand Rapids Community College No. 30 in its ranking of “Top Culinary Schools 2016.”

Three other Michigan schools also appear in the ranking, all in the top 15.

The site looked at hands-on experience, internship and externship opportunities, student-operated restaurants, facilities and reputation within the restaurant industry.

Secchia Institute

“Students can expect to receive hands-on training throughout the program, in addition to lecture courses to ensure a well-rounded experience,” the site says. “Students have the opportunity to practice and demonstrate their skills under the supervision of faculty at three different types of restaurants on campus, including a deli/bakery, a fine dining restaurant and a conference center.”

The Secchia Institute has been an American Culinary Federation accredited school for more than 30 years and has more than 32 instructional spaces.
