A church in the region is ready to build a new $1.3-million facility to support its growing congregation.

Restore Church in Ionia will break ground on a new 12,500-square-foot facility on Sept. 15 in Ionia, at 420 W. Main St.

The facility should be completed next January.

Demolition at the site took place late last year and was paid for through an early capital campaign.

Restore Church has also raised nearly $500,000 for construction through a capital campaign.

The church is working with Create 3, Orion Construction and Mercantile Bank on the project.

The new facility should help to revitalize West Main Street, with a simple design meant to serve a larger congregation, said Jason Wheeler, a spokesperson for Orion Construction.

Wheeler said that Restore Church needs more sanctuary space for a number of programs: weekly services, youth services, men’s and women’s services, social services and community enrichment services.

He added that the church as been operating from its current facility for years with no parking lot, and the new facility will have on-site parking.
