A chain of stores focused on young women’s fashion has opened its first location in West Michigan.

Dry Goods opened the store last week in Kentwood in Woodland Mall, at 3195 28th St. SE.

The chain sells "contemporary" clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories, including brands such as Alternative Apparel, Double Zero and Naughty Monkey.

The retailer also has Michigan stores in Ann Arbor and Livonia.

“We are pleased to expand our presence in Michigan and look forward to joining a great mix of retailers at Woodland Mall,” said Lindsay Caltagirone, VP, Dry Goods.

Dry Goods has 19 stores across the Midwest, including Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The chain is a brand by Von Maur, a department store chain based in Daveport, Iowa.

Parent company

The family owned company was started in 1872 by J.H.C Petersen in a 20-by-50-foot storefront in Davenport, Iowa.

The Von Maur family took full ownership in 1937 and began expanding the concept in 1972.

Von Maur opened its first Dry Goods store in 2010.
