Three companies in the region have been named some of the “best” workplaces in the country.

Zeeland-based Disher and Kalamazoo-based Greenleaf Trust both appear in the top 25 “Best Small Workplaces” by Great Place to Work in its “Best Small and Medium Workplaces” ranking, published by Fortune.

Grand Rapids-based law firm Warner Norcross & Judd is also honored as one of the top 100 “Best Medium Workplaces.”

Disher is the No. 5 best small workplace, and Greenleaf Trust ranks No. 24. Warner Norcross is rated the No. 83 best medium workplace.

Small workplaces are categorized as those with fewer than 100 employees, while medium workplaces are defined as those which employ between 100 and 999 people.

Disher

Founded in 2000, Disher is a product development, talent attraction and business consulting firm headquartered in Zeeland.

Disher employees are eligible for an employee stock ownership plan, profit sharing, flexible work schedules, training and tuition reimbursement and no set limit on vacation time.

In the past year, Disher filled 15 positions, created six new positions and is planning to hire for 22 jobs this upcoming year.

At the time of the report, 95 employees worked for the company. Disher currently employs 130 people in the U.S., which would move the company to the mid-size category in future rankings.

Greenleaf Trust

Headquartered in Kalamazoo, Greenleaf Trust is a wealth management firm with offices in Grand Rapids, Birmingham, Traverse City and Petoskey.

Greenleaf pays 100 percent of the health dental and vision premiums for its employees and matches up to 4 percent in an employee’s 401k contribution. The firm reimburses up to $600 in physical fitness expenses and offers 26 days of paid time off after one year of full-time employment.

Of the 85 Greenleaf employee surveys received, 96 percent said the company was a great place to work.

At the time of the survey, Greenleaf had 99 employees.

Warner Norcross & Judd

Founded in Grand Rapids in 1931, law firm Warner Norcross & Judd has eight offices across Michigan and employs 376.

Based on 205 employee surveys, 95 percent of employees said Warner Norcross was a great place to work, and 99 percent had great pride in the company.

Warner Norcross offers a 401(k) match up to 6 percent of an employee's salary, company paid health insurance and 18 paid days off after one year of full-time employment.

Methodology

More than 52,000 employees at Great Place to Work-certified companies were surveyed to complete the organization’s anonymous Trust Index.

Employees were questioned on whether their company exhibited the characteristics that create a great workplace, including the honesty and quality of communication by managers, degree of support for employees’ personal and professional lives and the authenticity of relationships with co-workers.

Responses to the surveys were recorded and tabulated to produce the rankings.
