Shop earns Guinness World Record for longest 'ice cream dessert'
An ice cream shop in the region has officially set a world record.
A roughly half-mile-long ice cream sundae that was gobbled up in Ludington in June ended up being a record-setting one.
The Ludington Daily News reports Guinness World Records informed Ludington this week that ice cream shop House of Flavors holds the record after the summer event.
Thousands of people lined eight blocks in Ludington, a Lake Michigan town 100 miles northwest of Grand Rapids. Officials said the sundae measured a bit over 2,970 feet in length.
The previous record for the longest ice-cream dessert of 1,957 feet and 1 inch was set in 2015 in Manurewa, New Zealand, according to Guinness.
Ludington's record may be short-lived, however. Moo-ville Creamery and others in Nashville, Michigan reportedly tried to break the record on Sept. 17, making a dessert that spanned 3,656 feet.
