A sports bra maker in the area has been named one of the country’s “best entrepreneurial companies” by a magazine on entrepreneurship.

Jenison-based Shefit, founded by inventor Sara Moylan in 2013, is recognized in the “Entrepreneur 360” ranking in the latest issue of Entrepreneur. The ranking was announced this week.

Earlier this year, the startup was granted $250,000 by business investor Daymond John on ABC’s “Shark Tank.”

Moylan’s product, the Shefit sports bra, is designed with an adjustable bust band and shoulder straps for a customized fit to help women who have struggled with back pain or shoulder strain.

Honorees on the “Entrepreneur 360” ranking were selected based on the results of a study that looked at companies’ innovation, growth, leadership and impact. Using those metrics, Shefit ranks 293 out of 360. It is the only company in West Michigan in the ranking.

“The companies on this list exemplify growth, not just in top and bottom line, but in their ability to create a superior value for their customers, build adaptive learning cultures and drive innovation in their marketplace,” said Ryan Shea, president, Entrepreneur Media.

Moylan said the Shefit ranking is “truly an honor.”

“The simple fact is I started this company to help solve a common problem for women of every size and every age,” she said. “Being recognized for the work our team is doing is quite exciting and incredibly humbling.”

Chris Koens, marketing director of Shefit, said the company is “excited to have been included.”

“It is the whole team that makes something like this happen,” he said.

Several other Michigan businesses appear in the ranking: RPM Freight Systems and Ambassador Software of Royal Oak; Ralph Walker Designs of West Bloomfield; and SPLT of Detroit.
