Nominations are open for an awards program recognizing the state’s small businesses.

The 13th-annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business program is accepting nominations in several categories: Michigan 50 Companies to Watch; Innovation Award; Small Business Person of the Year; Small Business Exporter of the Year; and Veteran-Owned Small Business.

The awards are presented by several partners: Michigan Small Business Development Center, or MI-SBDC, located at Grand Valley State University’s Seidman College of Business; Michigan Economic Development Corp., or MEDC; Edward Lowe Foundation; Small Business Association of Michigan; and U.S. Small Business Administration.

“Michigan Celebrates Small Business embodies Michigan’s entrepreneurial spirit,” said Jennifer Deamud, COO of MI-SBDC, and executive director of Michigan Celebrates Small Business. “The awardees being honored have played a significant role in growing Michigan’s economy and creating jobs.”

Nominations, which are open until Nov. 18, can be submitted online. Self-nomination is allowed.

Honorees will be recognized at the 13th Michigan Celebrates Small Business gala on May 4 in Lansing.
