Auto supplier picks up state funds for new plant
A Rochester Hills-based auto supplier has received state funding for a new plant in the region.
Coastal Automotive was awarded a $436,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant to support its 300,000-square-foot plant in Holland.
The City of Holland also offered support for the project in the form of a property tax abatement.
The company will invest $6.5 million in the project, which is expected to create 110 jobs in the region.
The company announced in June it had secured a production space at 900 Brooks Ave. The facility was slated to begin operations in August.
Coastal Automotive chose to expand in Michigan over competing sites in Texas and Mexico.
Coastal Automotive's expansion into West Michigan is the first step in the company’s four-year global expansion initiative, which includes planned production growth into Mexico, China and Europe.
Coastal Automotive is a safety product manufacturer, using new foam-based products to enhance safety and reduce compartment sound in vehicles.
